This Sunday: When HASHEM Reboots Reality

For two years, I've been teaching Parashat Noach wrong.

Not the facts—the framework. I treated the flood like a morality tale: people sinned, God punished, lesson learned.

But that's not what's happening. The flood isn't punishment. It's physics.

Einstein said the Second Law of Thermodynamics is "the only physical theory which will never be overthrown." Why? Because it describes the fundamental direction of reality: entropy always increases. Closed systems move from order toward disorder. Always.

The generation of the flood reached maximum entropy. Complete moral collapse. Structural breakdown. Every inclination was only evil all day long (Bereshit 6:5). The system had reached dead equilibrium—no potential energy left for change.

When a computer's operating system becomes that corrupted, you don't patch it. You wipe the hard drive and reinstall from scratch.

That's what the flood was. Cosmic ctrl-alt-delete.

But HASHEM didn't destroy everything. He preserved low-entropy information in a closed system—the ark. While chaos raged outside, structure survived inside. And when the phase transition completed, there was something to rebuild from.

Then came the rainbow. The physics of light dispersion through water droplets existed since Creation. But now HASHEM gives it meaning: "This is My covenant. Never again."
